One of the best doctors we could ever have on our “pit crew” is singing.
My career as a voice coach working with singers in one to one and group settings has allowed me to witness some of the most fantastic transformations in my clients.
See, singing is about more than just pretty sounds and freely expressing ourselves. It’s a bonified gifted healer from mental health to happiness and everything in between, singing is a great way to manage health.
Here are 4 ways singing can help you manage your health:
1. Singing helps manage stress: YUP! Singing is a stress reliever. Studies show that cortisol levels (the stress hormone) are lower after we belt out a tune. So… when you say “I feel less stressed after I sing, you can now say … Like LEGIT, science has my back!
2. Singing helps with mental health: Singing develops a sense of belonging and connection to others. When we sing, we raise the vibration of ourselves and all that is around us. Singing also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system… so it takes us OUT of fight or flight and into … OOOOOOH YEAH!
3. Singing helps with empowerment : Oh… helloooooo boundaries and truth speaking… I see you’ve been waiting for us! Allowing sound to flow through your throat chakra is a body based way to empower your truth speaking voice. Sing, hum, giggle, laugh… it will all begin to move sound in a way that builds somatic confidence in our creative endeavours.
4. Singing can bring JOY: Just pure, unbridled joy. The kind that feels expansive and possible, and fills your dang heart! Yeah, that kind! It can also help process other emotions too ~ and you know what? ALL are welcome in the singing space!
However singing comes to you, use it as a tool for self expression, radical voice love and health affirming practice!
